The Douglas County Public Library in Minden presents An Afternoon with Local Authors, 2-4 p.m. Saturday. The free event features area authors Elizabeth Leiknes, Megan Avila, William Hill, Charity Meadows and Pat Hickey, who will meet readers, sell their books and sign autographs.
Elizabeth Leiknes is the author of "The Sinful Life of Lucy Burns," a novel she describes as sassy women's fiction. The English teacher inspires her Carson Valley Middle School students to write and won the school's Teacher of the Year award in 2007.
Megan Avila is the author of "The Vitals: An Absolutely Essential Volume of Poetry" about her struggles in life to live, love, and forget. Her poems are her recollections and feelings of finding her place in life.
Known for his writings in imaginative fiction and fantasy, William Hill recently published his 10th novel, "The Vampire Hunters Stalked." Hill's other novels include "The Magic Bicycle," "Chasing Time: TMB 2," "California Ghosting," "The Vampire Hunters," "Wizard Sword," "Dragon Pawns: Jules and the Runt Dragon," "Vegas Vampire," "Dawn of the Vampire," and "Vampire's Kiss." To inspire readers and other writers, Hill gives writing workshops and presentations at schools and libraries.
Carson City author Charity Meadows won the Associated Students of the University of Nevada scholarship award for literary accomplishments in college. She later collaborated with Dustin Pesquera to write "Hara-wan Anthology: A Collection of Poetry, Prose, and Short Stories."
Pat Hickey's book, "Tahoe Boy," chronicles his adventures growing up at Lake Tahoe, reporting for KOH radio, writing for the Nevada Appeal and serving on the Nevada Legislature.
