Mono County will be holding a public hearing on Thursday, July 2, 7 p.m., at the Walker Community Center, which will be in conjunction with the monthly meeting of the Antelope Valley Regional Planning Advisory Committee. The purpose of this is to get public input for a Walker Community Center Area Master Plan. They want your opinions about the idea and what you would like to see happen in that area. Please make every effort to attend.
Holiday postal hours
Josh Armstrong of the Coleville Post Office has let me know that their hours on July 3 will be different than usual. The post office will closed at 1 p.m., and the boxes there will be collected at that time. The blue box by Mountain View Barbecue will be collected at 1:15 p.m. If you have mail that must be sent after that time, you can use the Gardnerville Post Office, where they will collect it at 4:45 p.m.
Walker Thrift Store
Virginia, the store manager, has asked me to remind Valley residents that the store has medical equipment for loan if you need temporary help. These items include walkers, canes, crutches, etc., which can be returned when the need is past.
Board of supervisors evening meeting
The board will meet at the Walker Community Center on July 21, 6 p.m., for their special evening meeting. They will want to hear from our residents regarding items important to them, so try to be there.
ATV Jamboree
From all the ATVs I saw in our area over last weekend, it sure appears that the Walker Chamber of Commerce's event was very well-attended. That was good for all of our local businesses, and a lot of fun for the participants. If you are an ATVer, plan for next year's even to enjoy the rides planned.
Trout planted in the river
On June 15, 533 pounds of Alpers and rainbow trout were planted in the West Walker River. I know they are catchable, because my husband's buddy caught a beautiful large fish a couple of days ago. Get out there and try your luck.
This and that
On June 12 the high school and middle school held their graduations, which were enjoyable, as always. Our best wishes to all of the graduates in their future plans.
Last Saturday, in the middle of the night we had a very unusual and extended power outage here. I talked with NV Power, but they had no record of it. I would think they would know about a close to four hour gap, but still have not got an answer as to why it happened.
