A funeral service is 1 p.m. today at the Carson Colony Gym for native Nevadan Joleen Lou Fred-Erwin, 50, who died June 24, 2009.
Born in Schurz to Rev. Lucerina Sanchez and Louvain Fred, she received her GED and graduated from ITT Tech with a degree in electronics.
A former firefighter and camp crew leader, she married Johnnie Ray Erwin Jr.
She enjoyed watching sports with her sons, especially when the 49ers were playing. She enjoyed fishing, camping, singing songs and telling stories by the campfire. She tried to spend as much time with her grandchildren as she could, including making baskets with grandson Son Son.
She is preceded in death by her parents; brothers Jonathan Dressler, Leonard Mack and Leon Mack; granddaughter Zaniyha Antonia Erwin; aunt Pauline (Willis) Potts, both of Greenville, Calif.
She is survived by her husband; children Johnnie Ray Erwin Jr. II, Cerena Lorraine DeGarmo, Joseph Lee Erwin and Louvain Gene Erwin; sisters Maureena Dressler, Terri Wilkes and Teresa Wilkes; 22 grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Burial will follow the funeral at Woodfords Indian Cemetery. Dinner will follow at the Woodfords Community Building. Donations will be appreciated. Arrangements are entrusted to Walton's Chapel of the Valley in Carson City.
