A Gardnerville man who marked his 21st birthday Wednesday in Douglas County Jail was ordered to serve a year in jail for violating his probation on minor in possession of alcohol.

"You knew you had a year hanging over your head and you couldn't keep from drinking," East Fork Justice Jim EnEarl told Jonathon Norkunas.

EnEarl said he could apply for in-patient rehabilitation.

"I tried hard," Norkunas said. "I slipped."

He was arrested June 13 at the skatepark at Herbig Park when an officer caught him with a 20-ounce beer. At the time, Norkunas was underage and in violation of his probation.

"You drink stupidly," EnEarl said. "Quit now."
