GE Energy has designated the Carson Valley Arts Council Copeland Building as their project for the past two years during the GE Energy Global Volunteer Day.
On May 28 they painted the building, inside and out. Community members commented how a little paint made the old building come alive.
On June 6, the GE employees and their families worked on the inside of the warehouse, the future home of the multifunctional theater venue, in response to the Douglas County fire marshal's request to remove the lumber racks in the warehouse.
The volunteers ripped old wood off walls and removed windows, shelves and cabinets.
They recycled more than 7,100 pounds of wood. Old cabinets and shelves were dismantled to fit into a 17-yard Dumpster. The volunteers weeded flower beds, laid pavers, removed dirt and rock landscaping material, put down weed-control material and put in new rock landscaping material. The volunteers completed their entire work list before it rained at 1 p.m. The GE safety was onsite to make sure the employees were safe.
"Thank you GE for all of your hard work," organizers said. "GE Energy is a great asset to Douglas County and our state."
