It is safe to say we are living in very interesting times. Almost anyone you talk to would agree that we are living in very stressful days. It's evident many of the institutions we have put our trust in are being shaken. It seems like every day brings a new challenge in our world - nation rising against nation, turmoil within nations themselves, including our own.
The Bible tells us in Hebrews 12:25-29, "See that you do not refuse Him who speaks. For if they did not escape who refused Him who spoke on Earth, much more shall we not escape if we turn away from Him who speaks from Heaven, whose voice then shook the Earth; but now He has promised, saying, 'Yet once more I shake not only the Earth, but also Heaven.'"
Now "Yet once more" indicates the removal of those things that are being shaken, as of things that are made, that the things which cannot be shaken may remain. Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us have grace, by which we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear. For our God is a consuming fire. These Scriptures tell us everything that can be shaken will be, and the only thing that cannot be shaken is the eternal kingdom of God.
Haggai, the Old Testament prophet who spoke these words over 2,600 years ago, was speaking of thrones, nations, kingdoms, and military might. Haggai 2:7, "and I will shake all nations." Haggai 2:22, "I will overthrow the throne of kingdoms; I will destroy the strength of the Gentile kingdoms. I will overthrow the chariots and those who ride on them."
If there is a kingdom which cannot be shaken, how do we become a part of that kingdom? Jesus made it very clear in John 3. If you want to enter the king of heaven you must be born again. We were all born in the flesh, but it is necessary that we are born of the Spirit. When a person is born again their spirit is made alive, and they are adopted into the household of God. They are then a partaker of this eternal kingdom and have received eternal life. It doesn't matter what happens in this world when we have confidence that God is our father and we are safe and secure in His hands.
