Members of the Too Much Fun Club will be raising money at their poker run on Saturday for the daughter of Terrence "Joe" Howell. The run starts at the Genoa Bar in the morning and winds up at the Carson River Resort in Alpine County. Member Bill Donohoe said they'll have a jar out to collect donations for Howell's daughter.

About a half dozen lightning strikes resulted in small fires along the Sierra Front between noon and 6 p.m. on Thursday. We had a couple of power bumps, but not much in the way of moisture in the Valley. It looked like the Pine Nuts were getting something, though.

Thunderstorms are out of the immediate forecast, according to the National Weather Service. I say it that way because Thursday's storm didn't pop up in the forecast until Wednesday, so who knows. The high today is supposed to hit 88, but it could be warmer. The low tonight, 46 degrees.
