Staff Reports

Nonprofit organizations that help with Genoa's annual Candy Dance are Douglas County Mounted Sheriff's Posse, Gardnerville and Jacks Valley elementary schools' parent/teacher associations, Douglas County Search & Rescue, Genoa Volunteer Fire Department and Douglas County Explorer Scouts.

Douglas County Sheriff's Mounted Posse participates in the Nevada Day, Carson Valley Days, the Bridgeport 4th of July and Johnson Lane parades.

They contribute to the Carson Valley Community Food Closet, Trick or Treat Safety Street and Project Santa Claus.

More than $10,000 has been awarded to the mounted posse's scholarship program for Douglas County students in good academic standing who plan to pursue careers in agriculture, animal science or criminal justice. The group raises funds by providing security and parking cars at Candy Dance.

Douglas County Search & Rescue provides emergency search, rescue and backcountry medical aid in the county and assists with Candy Dance with traffic and parking lot management. Funds they receive are used for equipment, training and rescue efforts.
