An expansion that will more than double the number of units at Walley's Hot Springs goes before Douglas County commissioners on Thursday.
The new owner of Walley's, Celebrity Resorts is seeking a modification to build more than 200 new time-share units.
County commissioners meet starting noon Thursday in the Douglas County Administrative Building. The meeting starts with an hour of employee negotiations with the public portion beginning at 1 p.m. Project proponents are seeking an expansion of Walley's special use permit.
Most of the new units would be built west of Foothill Road on the property south of Genoa.
County staff is recommending approval of the expansion.
According to the report prepared by associate planner Brandy McMahon and county civil engineer Natallia Saparava, Walley's consists of 112 time-share units on the east side of the road.
A dozen more time share units would be built on east side of Foothill and another 216 would go on property Walley's owns on the west side, which is now vacant.
The new project would consist of five four-story lodge buildings with 32 units per building, 10 two-story lodge buildings with four units each and two two-story buildings with eight units each.
Each of the units has two bedrooms and two bathrooms. Two pools, pool houses and tennis courts would be built, along with a basketball court and a picnic area. The project would be built in nine phases over 13 years.
While the project is not in the boundaries of the town of Genoa, the applicant is planning a presentation at the town board meeting 7 p.m. Tuesday.
