A memorial service and burial Mass is 10 a.m. Saturday for Robert John Sandor, 77, who died Feb. 8, 2009.
Born May 27, 1931, in Chicago to Mr. and Mrs. Robert J. Sandor Sr., he was a graduate of the Chicago Vocational School. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He went to work for American Airlines in 1949 in fleet service and then maintenance at Midway Airport. He attended flight engineer school in New York and was stationed in San Francisco. He flew as a flight engineer for 35 years until he retired in 1991, with 421⁄2 years with American.
He married Virginia Taft in 1956. She preceded him in death in 1965 and he married Gertrude Wheland in Burlingame, Calif., where they made their home for 15 years.
Mr. Sandor is preceded in death by his parents and first wife.
He is survived by children Erika (Elton) Sandor Cassels of Gardnerville, Michael Robert (Denise) of Atlanta, Ga., Jeanette (Ian) Sandor-Lebby of Brentwood, Calif., and Mary Taft Sandor of Santa Barbara, Calif.; grandchildren Cody Michael Tinker of Gardnerville, Julia Taft Kennel and Mark Benjamin Lebby of Brentwood, and Christopher and Andrew Sandor of Atlanta, Ga.; sister Elizabeth Gross of Sonoma, Calif.; and many nieces and nephews.
FitzHenry's Carson Valley Funeral Home and Lucas Funeral Home in Hurst, Texas, are in charge of arrangements.
