There's at least a couple of inches of snow on the ground in Genoa this morning after a winter storm delivered nearly half a foot on the west side last night. There were times when the snow fell at about an inch an hour. It's 30 degrees outside.

The Nevada Highway Patrol incident Web site is listing 16 separate property damage accidents on Highway 580 between 5:35 and 6:11 a.m. It must be pretty slick up there, so watch out and if you're headed to Reno, take Virginia Street. Closer to home there is a single Douglas non-injury accident on Highway 395 south of Gardnerville on Jake's Hill at 5:49 a.m.

All routes over the passes are closed, down in the Valley, chains or snow tires are required on Highway 395 from Muller Lane south to Bridgeport, and probably past there, too. The same goes for Genoa Lane and Foothill Road, Kingsbury Grade and Highway 50 from Carson City to Stateline.

The winter storm warning expires at 10 a.m. and looking at the radar, the worst of the storm may have passed. Expect snow showers through the morning. The snow will be heavy at times. Today's high temperature is expected to hit 39 degrees. The winds will pick up as this storm moves on with gusts of up to 25 mph.
