A memorial service is March 21 at Crossroads Nazarene Church in Gardnerville for Donald E. Fillmore Sr., 82, who died Feb. 10, 2009, at his home after a battle with cancer.
Born Dec. 5, 1926, in Grass Valley, Calif., to Robert Benjamin and Helen Violet Nelson Fillmore, he attended school in Todds Valley.
Mr. Fillmore started logging and driving a truck at an early age.
He joined the U.S. Army and went to Korea from 1945-1946.
When he returned from the Army, he met and married Verneda Snooks. The couple lived in Diamond Springs, Calif., where they had three sons. The family moved to Fallon in 1964, where Mr. Fillmore worked for the Churchill County School District, was an electrician, drove a truck for Hickey Construction and served with the Churchill County Search & Rescue Team.
He moved to Dresslerville in 2006.
Mr. Fillmore was preceded in death by his brother Bob and wife Verneda.
He is survived by his sister Ruther Riesland and her family; brother Ken (Donna) Fillmore and their family; sons Don Jr., Mike and Benny and their families; six granddaughters; four grandsons and six great-grandchildren.
The memorial is located at 1788 Pinenut Road. Arrangements are in the care of FitzHenry's Carson Valley Funeral Home.
