Q: When is a blog not a blog but a paid political advertisement?
A: When it's http://blog.progressnownevada.org/
If you blog in Nevada, and many do, most of the blog editors are known as small, independent voices advocating what they believe in. There are a few which accept small donations for ads placed in their blogs but now there is a new entirely for-profit blog beast out there totally bought and paid for by no less than Boss Reid.
Erin Neff's new blog (cited above) is ostensibly just another "progressive voice." But it took Molly Ball of Neff's previous employer (the Las Vegas Review-Journal) to expose Neff's blog as bought and paid for by Boss Reid: "the [blog] was seeded with money from the Searchlight Leadership Fund, Sen. Harry Reid's political action committee." (Molly Ball, "Political Notebook," LVRJ, Feb. 23) So much for truth in political advertising in Nevada.
Reid is now buying Neff's voice to attack his old "friend" and ally, John Ensign, despite a long-standing but absolutely weird truce between the two spanning many years http://blog.progressnownevada.org/?p=29. If Reid is going to stab Ensign in the back, can't he be man enough to do it himself and not hire a mouthpiece?
