The deadline for artists and crafters to sign up for the 89th Candy Dance Arts and Crafts Fair is Friday. As with any of these things, it's flexible depending on how many folks respond. For more information, check at www.genoanevada.org. Candy Dance isn't until September.

The Douglas County Historical Society's speaker for this evening will be Sue Ann Monteleone of the Nevada State Museum who will talk about Washoe basket maker Datsolalee 7 p.m. tonight at the Carson Valley Museum & Cultural Center. The lecture's free. For more information call 782-2555.

Spending and Government Efficiency Commission Chairman Bruce R. James will speak to members of the Douglas County Republican Central Committee at their headquarters, 1516 Highway 395, Suite G in Gardnerville. Today will be sunny and warmer with the high temperature hitting 55 degrees and the winds light at 5 mph. There's a slight disturbance coming through on Saturday that will translate into a small wind storm and then a little cooldown.
