GE Energy employees in Minden pledged more than $68,000 to their United Way campaign, a 48 percent increase over last yea's amount.
Because GE matches 40 percent of its employees' donations, the GE employee contribution to the United Way will total more than $100,000.
"This contribution demonstrates just how committed our employees are to the Carson Valley community," said Brian Palmer, vice president, GE Energy.
"The number of employees participating in the United Way drive almost doubled from last year, and high-level donors were up significantly as well," he said.
The funds raised will be allocated by the United Way of Northern Nevada to programs run by local agencies, such as Family Support Council, Northern Nevada RAVE Family Foundation and the Boys and Girls Clubs.
GE not only gives financially to organizations through the United Way, its employees also give their time through GE Volunteers.
In 2008, more than 2,000 hours were donated to local schools, community events and area arts programs.
