Bishops celebrate 65th wedding anniversary

Godrey "Mac" and Catharine"Cathy" Bishop celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on Feb. 6, 2009.

Mac Bishop was born in Stover, Mo., and came to the Sacramento area at a young age. He moved to Richmond in the 1940s where he worked as a ship fitter in the Kaiser Shipyards.

Cathy Bishop was born in Topeka, Kan., and moved to Richmond in the early 1940s. She was a beautician in Topeka, but during World War II she took a job as a welder in the Kaiser Shipyard.

Mac and Cathy met as workers in the shipyard and married Feb. 6, 1944. They spent almost 60 years in the Richmond/El Sobrante area before moving to Minden in 2004.

Mac worked in sheet metal and heating for almost 40 years and Cathy was active in community services including being a volunteer driver for Meals on Wheels in Richmond for 29 years.

The couple's children, Neil Bishop and Janet Franklin, live in northern Nevada.
