A 39-year-old Reno man with an extensive criminal history was sentenced Monday to four years in prison for using a stolen credit card.

District Judge Michael Gibbons told Robert Mitchell Jr. he must serve 19 months before he is eligible for parole.

According to prosecutor Laurie Trotter, Mitchell committed the offense while on release from federal charges. He's facing up to five years in federal prison for an unrelated offense.

Mitchell said this would be his fourth trip to prison.

"I dug my own hole," he said. "I'm sober now. I know what I did. I'll be looking at more calendars."

The card was stolen by another man at a Stateline casino, but Mitchell was videotaped using it.

Gibbons pointed out that in 2000, Mitchell was sentenced to 19-48 months in Washoe County for the same offense.

"With your priors, it's very hard for the court to do anything other than that," Gibbons said.
