Two Gardnerville men face court hearings Wednesday accused of assaulting two teenagers in what authorities believe was a case of mistaken identity.

Andrew William Tagay, 20, was charged with attempted robbery and misdemeanor battery. His bail was set at $53,000.

Miguel Rubio 21, was charged with attempted battery. His bail is $25,000.

According to reports, deputies were called to a residence near Scolari's at 10 p.m. on March 12 after the victims said two men jumped them on their way home from returning a DVD, demanded money and threw beer cans at them.

The victims said the defendants shouted "Tokers" at them as they ran away.

One of the teenagers was hit in the back of the head with a full beer can that exploded on impact. The other teen had a cut over his left eye.

Witnesses said the suspects mistook the victims for a group of young men who came to the door earlier that night looking for a fight.

The suspects were arrested without incident at a residence on Yellow Jacket after deputies showed up with a K-9 officer.

Justice Jim EnEarl appointed Tod Young to represent Tagay and Derrick Lopez to represent Rubio.
