It's the first day of spring, and the National Weather Service is betting the farm that by Sunday it will look more like winter. Temperatures today will be springlike, hitting 70 degrees before taking the big plunge. When the wind hits on Saturday it will bring the high down to 57, with winds of 25-30 mph and gusts as high as 45 mph. The chance of precipitation in the form of rain or snow is 80 percent. By Sunday the high will be at 42 degrees and windy with a 50 percent chance of snow showers.

Spring burn season has been open for a week, but burning will still be a little sketchy thanks to the weather. If you want to burn, go to the East Fork Fire & Paramedic Districts' Web site at www.eastforkfire.org and download a permit from the Web site. They are also available at the Minden Inn and all fire stations in the district.

Roadwork that has Genoa Lane down to a single lane near the river should be wrapping up soon. The road has been down to one lane for utility work.
