A Gardnerville Ranchos man was cited for hit and run after taking out the front bedroom of a neighboring home on Franklin Lane.
Brandon Moore, 21, was cited in the accident that occurred 11:55 p.m. on Thursday, according to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office.
According to the police report, the owner of the home at 1270 Franklin was awakened by a large crash coming from the corner of his home.
He told deputies he ran out of his home in time to see a Honda sport utility vehicle drive away from his house and into the neighboring yard. The man ran back into his house to call 911 and by the time he returned, the SUV was parked in the neighboring garage and the driver was gone.
Deputies said the southwest corner wall of the home was destroyed, and the roof was hanging into the room.
They reported 60-foot yaw marks from the corner of Bolivia Drive, northwest across Franklin and onto the lawn of the home that was hit. At the point of impact, deputies found the front grill to a Honda Passport and acceleration marks leading from the home into the wooden fence. An 8-foot length of fence was knocked down as the Honda made a U-turn, ran over a telephone box and back into Franklin.
The Honda backed into the garage of the home at 1268 Franklin, hitting a section of the wall and the garage door. Both of the Honda's air bags were deployed.
Deputies looked for the driver, but could not find anyone in the house. The building inspector estimated the damage to the home at 1270 Franklin was $15,000-$20,000, but said it was not extensive enough to condemn the property.
Moore turned himself in on Friday where he was cited.
