As I watch Iron Tiger football practice for the 2009 season from my office window and prepare for my son's graduation, I am forced into reality that football for me is truly over. I thought if I procrastinated long enough, this wouldn't happen.
Tradition has been to have team dinners in the commons the night before home games but due to the generosity of so many in our community, the players this year were treated to weekly activities. Thank you to the All Sports Boosters for their support and use of the snack bar to accommodate the dinner for the Tigers and the team from Las Vegas.
Thank you to Ana Broderson at the Carson Valley Inn, Sheryl Gonzales at the Town of Genoa, Dr. Judie Brierly, Mandarin Gourmet, Lori at Ironwood Cinema, Matt at the Pizza Factory, Monique at Accolades, Katrina at KidPix and the kitchen and janitorial staff of Douglas High School. Thank you to the parents who hosted team dinners, Lori Kelly, Jay and Deb McFadden (twice), John and Jocelyn Fisher, and Tony and Angie Holdridge. The dinners would not have been possible without the support of the following "moms" who helped organize as well as make all the phone calls, Deb McFadden, Denise Rudnick, Michelle Robertson, Susie Moglich, Katie Dillon and Utanah Derbyshire. A special thank you to Connie Wenner, Joy McFadden, Toni VanWinkle and Margaret Guzman for always picking up the slack. Of course none of this would have been possible without the support of Coach Rippee and the varsity football staff.
Thank you also to the players who made it so much fun. You are an incredible group of young men (and young lady). I will always be grateful to you for your fundraising efforts for Team Z and Relay for Life. In two years you helped generate in excess of $10,000 and were voted "Most Inspirational Youth Team" for your efforts.
