Softball: Big inning propels Douglas

The Douglas High softball team scored all nine of its runs in the fourth inning to take a 9-4 win over Galena Thursday afternoon in Minden.


Stephanie Harper went the distance for the Tigers in the circle, striking out six and walking seven as Douglas improved to 3-1 in Sierra League play and 5-5 overall.


Galena built a three-run lead in the top of the third before Douglas answered in the bottom of the fourth.


Emily Weaver, Maddy Gilbert, Katrina Morgan and Morgan Blomstrom led the inning off with consecutive singles, with Blomstrom's driving in two runs and Morgan scoring on a throwing error.


Harper doubled to bring Blomstrom around, Marina Diaz singled to score Harper, Brenna White singled, Weaver singled to score Diaz, Gilbert singled to score White and Weaver and Gilbert scored Douglas' final run on a single from Morgan.


Galena added one more run in the top of the sixth but Douglas held on to hand the Grizzlies their first defeat in Sierra League play of the year.
