Softball: Lady Tigers move into 1st

The Douglas High softball team picked up a pair of wins Saturday over Galena to move into first place in the Sierra League.

The Tigers took 11-2 and 3-2 wins over the Grizzlies in Reno to improve to 5-1 on the year.

In game one, Douglas took an early 3-2 lead on a run-scoring single from Brenna White, a solo home run from Katrina Morgan and an RBI single from Marina Diaz.

The Tigers broke the game open in the sixth when Morgan hit an RBI single, Stephanie Harper hit a two-run single and Rebecca Trute hit an RBI single. Harper later scored on a wild pitch.

Morgan hit a two-run homer in the seven tha Harper finished things off with another home run.

Harper struck out seven batters and walked two in picking up the win.

In game two, Harper pitched a complete game, striking out six and walking three.

Douglas took an early 2-0 lead on a throwing error and an RBI double from Emily Weaver. Galena tied it up in the bottom of the second and the game remained tied until the top of the seventh when Mia Townsell reached on an error, advanced to third on the throw and later scored on a passed ball.
