Meeting week kicks off with tentative budget hearings for Douglas County today at 4 p.m. First up today is the general fund. Budget hearings will continue at 4 p.m. on Wednesday. The county meets at the Douglas County Administrative Building, 1616 Eighth St. in Minden

Gardnerville pot farmer James Gilbert is up for sentencing this morning in Douglas District Judge Dave Gamble's courtroom. Gilbert faces up to four years in prison for growing what was described by one officials as a "dense forest" of marijuana in connection to an Oct. 5, 2006, arrest.

March will not be going out like a lamb today according to a hazardous weather statement issued by the National Weather Service early this morning. We'll have gusty winds this afternoon and evening. Gusts of up to 30 mph will be common and ridge gusts will be 70 mph. This is a harbinger to a stronger storm expected to arrive Thursday, bringing strong winds, and a band of snow Thursday night.
