State health officials are reasuring Nevadans that it's OK to give blood during the recent flu outbreak.
"Protection of blood supply chain resources is part of our statewide emergency response to public health situations such as the H1N1 flu infections," said State Health Officer Dr. Mary Guinan. "Timely availablilty of blood products for hsopitals is always critical in order to meet the needs of patients. It is important for the public to know that they can feel safe about donating blood at this time, whether it is for themsleves or others."
A toll free hotline has been established to answer frequently asked questions about the flu. Callers may speak to a bi-linqual public health professional 24 hours a day.

Anyone who suspects they have the flu, should contact their physician or seek medical attention.
