As of Tuesday, no cases of H1N1 flu have been detected in Carson Valley, though nearly four dozen samples have been sent out for testing.
According to state health officials, there are five confirmed cases of the H1N1 flu in Nevada. Washoe County confirmed two additional cases. These cases are relatives of the little girl who had the first positive test in the state, and are recovering.
Carson Valley Medical Center is reporting an increase in flu-like activity in their emergency room.
According to marketing manager Shannon Albert, the Gardnerville hospital is monitoring flu activity and will report any suspected cases to the Nevada Health Division.
The hospital has sent 47 samples off for testing.
Two additional cases of the formerly named swine flu were confirmed in Southern Nevada today.
One of the cases was in a middle school student, according to state officials.
The school where the case was discovered will not be closed, according to Dr. Mary Guinan.
"With the announcement of a confirmed case of H1N1 flu in a school-aged child, we had our first opportunity to implement the school closure guidance document," said Southern Nevada Health District Chief Health Officer Dr. Lawrence Sands. "Working with school and state health officials we were able to determine it was not necessary to close schools and to validate the process wor worked so diligently to put in place."
