Federal firefighters will be conducting a small prescribed burn on Thursday in Alpine County, if fuel and weather conditions are appropriate.
The 24-acre burn is on Bureau of Land Management lands directly south of Turtle Rock County Park, adjacent to California State Route 89 between Woodfords and
Markleeville.
The prescribed fire is part of an ongoing fuels treatment effort on BLM lands in Alpine County, California, to reduce the threat of wildfire damage to homes, private property and developed recreation sites; reduce the threat of wildfire damage to natural resources; provide a safer area for fire fighters to conduct suppression operations; and improve timber stand health, vigor and resistance to fire, insects and disease.
Smoke may be noticeable from Markleeville, Woodfords and Minden/Gardnerville during ignition. The prescribed burn will be rescheduled if fuel and weather conditions are not within guidelines.
If you have any questions about the project, please call Prescribed Fire and Fuels Specialist Tim Roide at 885-6185.
