A viewing is 6-8 p.m. today at Walton's Chapel of the Valley in Carson City for native Nevadan and lifetime Carson Valley resident Hugh Smokey Sr., 62, who died May 6, 2009, surrounded by his family and friends. A memorial service is 11 a.m. Monday at the Stewart Baptist Church on Snyder Way.
Born the second eldest of 12 children in Schurz to Flora Snooks and Carnegie Smokey Sr. on June 18, 1946.
He is preceded in death by his father Carnegie Smokey Sr., sister Jeannie Smokey-Jim, paternal grandparents, William and Sadie Smokey and maternal grandfather, Jackson Snooks.
He is survived by his mother Flora; son Hugh Smokey Jr.; daughters Sheila, Candace and Melanie Smokey; eight grandchildren; siblings Angie-Smokey of Phoenix, Carnegie Smokey Jr., Norma Smokey, Errol Smokey, Norrine Smokey-Smith of Portland, Ore., Arnold Smokey, Becky Smokey, Eric Smokey, all of Dresslerville and Adrienne Smokey-Lien of Sumner, Wash.; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A viewing is 6-8 p.m. Saturday at Walton's Chapel of the Valley in Carson City. Burial will be at the Happy Hunting Grounds at Bodie Flats. A dinner will immediately follow at the Dresslerville Gymnasium.
Walton's has been entrusted with his final arrangements.
