Golf: Douglas grad advances at US Open Qualifier

Gardnerville resident Eddie Shope, who graduated from Douglas High in 2004 and runs the Line Drive U baseball and golf facility in Johnson Lane advanced to the next round at the US Open Qualifier at Genoa Lakes Monday,

Shope tied for second in the tournament with California resident AJ Shiffert, shooting at 33 on the back nine to finish at 69. Andy Walker was the low medalist at 67.

Douglas senior Thomas Wicker finished 22nd at 77.

The local qualifiers move on to sectional qualifying next week and in early June. The winners there move on to the US Open June 15-21.
