Art association meets

The Carson Valley Art Association meets, 1:30 p.m. Friday, at the UNR Cooperative Extension conference room, 1329 Waterloo Lane, Gardnerville. Dr. Angus Quinlan from the Nevada Rock Art Foundation speaks for Nevada Archeological Awareness and Historic Preservation Month. Public invited and refreshments served. Birding at South Lake Tahoe

Check out Lake Tahoe native birds at the Lake Tahoe Birdwatch, 7:30-10 a.m. May 23 at Pope Beach in South Lake Tahoe.

Hosted by Sierra Nevada Alliance birder Sheryl Ferguson, spotting scopes will be available to look for osprey, bald eagles, western tanagers, woodpeckers and ducks. Native birds to the area also include the Stellars jay, white-headed woodpecker, wood duck and American coot.

The bird watching event begins at Pope Beach with an overview the types of birds that may be expected. Bring sunscreen, walking shoes and water. Binoculars are optional. No pets.

Cost is a $25 suggested donation to the Sierra Nevada Alliance.

Adventure Camp offered

Adventure Camp gives children ages 5 to 12 a variety of fun daily activities during summer break. Trip excursions include field trips to Sand Harbor Beach at Lake Tahoe, swimming at Carson Valley Swim Center, bowling at Carson Lanes, climbing and bounce houses at Jump Man Jump in Reno, movies at Ironwood Cinema 8 Theater and fun at Lampe Park.

Other activities include art and crafts, group games, board games, jump rope, dodge ball and outdoor play.

Adventure camp is offered 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday at Pinon Hills and Scarselli elementary schools. Cost is $22 per day, which includes admission fees, transportation cost and a daily snack. Spaces are limited and pre-registration is required.

Calling all Neddenrieps

The Neddenriep family reunion is celebrated on June 20 and 21 with a western-style barbecue at the Neddenriep Ranch in Alpine County and brunch at Marlena Hellwinkel's home in Minden after special recognition of the family during Sunday service at Trinity Lutheran Church.

Relatives are expected from Germany, Washington, California, Nebraska, Iowa and Nevada but some may have been unintentionally overlooked.
