Art association meets

The Carson Valley Art Association meets, 1:30 p.m. today, at the UNR Cooperative Extension conference room, 1329 Waterloo Lane, Gardnerville. Dr. Angus Quinlan from the Nevada Rock Art Foundation speaks for Nevada Archeological Awareness and Historic Preservation Month. Public invited and refreshments served. Swap meet Saturday

The Tahoe Youth & Family Services swap meet, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the South Tahoe Middle School. Hot dogs, cotton candy and car wash. Elks breakfast and taco night

The Elks of the Minden-Douglas Lodge No. 2670 pancake breakfast is 8:30-11 a.m. Sunday at the Elks lodge. Choice of pancakes, eggs/omelets, sausage, juice and coffee, $5.50 for adults and $3 for children. Elks taco night is 5-7 p.m. Thursday at the lodge, 1276 Pit Road, Gardnerville Ranchos. Comedians graduate

Free comedy show at the graduation of students of Kat Simmons' stand-up comedy workshop on Wednesday at the Unity Center, 1219 S. Carson St., Carson City. Doors open at 7 p.m., show at 7:30 p.m. The adults-only show is the culmination of a six-week workshop where the students take the stage for the first time. Book signing

A book signing event for Carson Valley teacher Elizabeth Leiknes's novel, "The Sinful Life of Lucy Burns," is 3:30-5:30 p.m. Thursday at the Taildragger Cafe at the Minden Tahoe Airport. Theater auditions

Auditions for Carson Valley Community Community Theatre's "Murder of the Mystery Detective" are 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. May 30, and 5:30-7:30 p.m. June 3, at the Carson Valley Arts Council in the Copeland Cultural Arts Center, 1572 Highway 395, Minden.

The comedic murder mystery has nine characters and will be performed Aug. 9 as part of theater company's Murder in the Barn and Picnic on the Lawn event at the Hickey Ranch on Foothill Road. Lines can be read, and audience participation to solve the mystery encouraged. This is an opportunity for those new to theater to become involved. Information, director Dave Thomas, 265-6964.
