The public is invited to a free training session 8 a.m.-5 p.m. June 6 on the best way to prepare and respond to a disaster when emergency responders are overwhelmed.
Tod F. Carlini, district chief, East Fork Fire and Paramedic Districts/Douglas County and emergency management director, in conjunction with Sheriff Ron P. Pierini, is offering Weapons of Mass Destruction/All-Hazards Community Partnership Training.
"Hurricane Katrina has taught us that citizens may be left to cope with a crisis on their own for the first few hours or even longer," Carlini said.
Training includes:
- How to create a family disaster plan
- What to include in a family disaster kit
- Developing a community resource database
- Crisis response
- Chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, and explosive information
- Terrorism awareness
- Desktop exercise
A complementary continental breakfast and lunch will be provided with the course.
The class will take place at the Carson Valley Inn in the Shannon Ballroom.
The room will be open one hour prior to the start of the class. Participants are invited for the continental breakfast and meet the instructors.
Please register for the class by June 4, 2009, by calling East Fork Fire and Paramedic Districts at 782-9040 between 8 a.m. -5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
The training is sponsored by the National Sheriffs Association.
