The chance for a strong thunderstorm to hit in Carson Valley is up to 50-50 today as we continue under a National Weather Service hazardous weather outlook. Low pressure off the coast will continue to drive moisture into the Sierra where it will develop storms along the Sierra ridge and then roll down hill. When they hit, expect heavy winds, hail and the chance of flash flooding from the heaviest storms.
Wilson Canyon was the location of the big weather event in western Nevada on Thursday night with 40-50 mph wind blowing dust that limited visibility down to 100 feet at times. It's not just the lightning or a flash flood that can get you. It's pretty dry out in the deserts, so watch out for winds that raise a ton of dust.
There's no Magiko this summer, but that doesn't mean it isn't going to be busy. There's a ton of stuff going on this weekend, Douglas High graduation and the fishing derby is next weekend, and the crescendo will be Carson Valley Days in two weeks.
