Western Nevada is under a flash flood watch starting at 1 p.m. and running through this evening.
The National Weather Service issued the watch this morning after forecasting lots of moisture and thunderstorms will combine to produce heavy rain in places. Stronger storms may produce up to an inch an hour in rainfall.
At greatest risk for floods are locations near small creeks and streams, canyons, steep terrain and urban areas. Heavy rain may quickly flood dry creeks, wash out roads and create rock slides, according to the weather service.
Under a flash flood watch, residents are asked to monitor the weather and be prepared to for immediate action should a warning be issued.
