RENO, Nev. - Junior forward Shavon Moore and senior forward Marianne Lombardi have been selected as captains for the women's basketball team for the 2009-10 season head coach Jane Albright announced Monday.
"Captains are an important piece of the success of any team. Shavon and Marianne have both endured through tough physical injuries and have earned the respect of their teammates because of their hard work and perseverance," Albright said. "Both of them are strong leaders by example and I expect them to greatly influence the culture of this team."
Moore, a 6-1 forward from Riverside, Calif., played in all 32 games as a sophomore while making 28 starts. She averaged 7.0 points per game and 6.6 rebounds per game. Last season she recorded career highs in both point (16 vs. Boise State) and rebounds (18 vs. LA Tech). She leads all active players in double-doubles with five and was named to the WAC All-Academic team.
Lombardi, a 6-1 senior from Yakima, Wash., played in 31 games as a junior last season while shooting 50 percent from the free throw line. She was named to the WAC All-Academic team for the third time in her career.
Nevada will open the regular season on Friday hosting Cal State Monterey Bay at 7 p.m. Season tickets are just $40 for adults and $20 for kids 8th grade and under and seniors 65 and older. Single-game tickets are $7 for adults and $4 for kids 8th grade and under and seniors 65 and older.
