Sierra Lutheran High School senior Wade Meddles added one more impressive performance to his high school resume over the weekend, shattering the course record at Rancho San Rafael Park to claim his second-consecutive NIAA 2A State Championship Saturday morning.
Meddles, currently ranked 12th in the country by dyestat.com, blistered the course at Rancho San Rafael in 16 minutes, 6 seconds, marking the best time at any level of the day.
He also keyed Sierra Lutheran's second-consecutive team title as the Falcons beat second-place Incline by an impressive 32 points.
Nathanael Willaims took third place with a time of 17:17, Levi Grabow took seventh with a time of 18:05 and Preston Lyons was 10th with a time of 18:33.
Nathan Conover (15th, 18:55), Andrew Deterding (20th, 19:10) and John McRae (27th, 19:34) rounded out the championship performance for the Falcons.
In the 4A race, Douglas senior Scotty Lococo finished a very respectable 12th out of 70 runners. He finished the 5K course with a time of 17:24. Carson's Richard Shroy won the state title.
Sophomore Andrew Cobourn was 40th with a time of 18:14.
On the girls' side, sophomore Sadie Gastelum was 42nd with a time of 22:01. South Tahoe's Kelsey Smith won the state title with a time of 18:59.
In the 2A girls' race, Becky Grabow took second with a time of 20:58 and Phoebe Mark took 22nd with a time of 23:45 for Sierra Lutheran.
