A 40-year-old Gardnerville man was sentenced Monday to three years in Nevada State Prison for felony battery that constitutes domestic violence.
"You knew if you used violence you'd be in trouble, and you did it anyway," District Judge Michael Gibbons told James Lanier Dew III.
He warned Dew that if he is convicted again of the crime, the punishment would be more severe.
"You can expect the maximum sentence the next time," Gibbons said. "The court can't stop you, it's up to you to do it."
The victim alleged Dew threatened to kill her on July 7.
Dew, on probation for two convictions this year for the same offense, is serving six months in Douglas County Jail for alcohol consumption in violation of his probation.
He faced up to five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
He was ineligible for probation.
