The Carson Valley Middle School eighth-grade team had a runaway 38-11 win over Alder Creek to open the year.
James Herrick and Jaden Wass teamed up to lead the Tigers in the game.
From the opening tip the Tigers attacked the hopp and swarmed on defense. Herrick tipped the ball to Austin Evans and Evans hit Brandon Pankey streaking to the hoop for an easy layup to start the game.
Displaying an aggressive man-to-man press the Tigers controlled the tempo of the game through out the first half and built a cofortable margin in the game.
"This was a great start to the season," said coach Mike Rechs. "We were able to work on a lot of different sets and get everyone playing time. Jaden Wass lead an aggressive defensive effort up front and James Herrick set the tone inside with several key blocked shots in the game."
The seventh-graders beat Alder Creek 34-16. Dilyn Rooker and Alex Tessmann controlled the pace of the game on Thursday at CVMS.
The team found themselves in a close game much of the first half as Alder Creek continued to fight back from deficits with key shooting and team passing.
Rooker keyed a strong second-half as the Tigers displayed an aggressive defense and great team passing to dominate the second half of action and earn their first victory.
Tessman controlled the paint both on offense and defense.
