A 12-hour winter weather advisory takes effect at 4 p.m. today, according to the National Weather Service. According to the advisory, rain and snow will start this afternoon and will quickly change to snow. The heaviest snow will fall between 6 p.m. and midnight with accumulations of 1-3 inches on the Valley floor and 3-6 inches in the foothills. Snow levels are predicted to start above 5,500 feet and then drop to the Valley floors by 6 p.m. The weather service said accumulating snow will create slick roads and hazardous driving conditions in the foothills by the evening commute. This morning it's a balmy 50 degrees out in Minden. It's breezy in Fish Springs with 16 mph winds and a temperature of 50. The breeze is expected to drop to 8 mph as the storm arrives.
