What do we do?

EDITOR:

I am an out-of-work construction project manager. I have worked steadily until February of this year at which time I was laid off due to lack of work. In June, I was hired by another company, but was recently dismissed for the same reason. I have a 17-year-old daughter who, when she was 15, was diagnosed with epilepsy which has gradually worsened. Without health insurance, $800 a month prescriptions, $1,800 MRIs, $400 blood tests, and doctor visits have drained our finances. When I was recently employed, I qualified for insurance and immediately added my daughter to the policy. We started the process of having her evaluated for brain surgery that could result in complete or partial cure of her seizures, but health insurance only lasts as long as the job, especially if you haven't been there for 12 months. We had an appointment with a neurosurgeon in Reno on Monday.

I applied for Nevada check-up for her and her 12-year-old brother. The Web site states that we would receive a notification of acceptance or denial within 45 days (What could possibly take that long), but when I called the check-up office, I was told that it would take more like 90 days.

At this point, our home is in foreclosure, our income is reduced to less than $900 a week, and we have the medical issues to deal with without insurance. All of this while also raising a 12-year-old boy and caring for my wife's parents who live with us. At this point, our future appears to be without a home, a second car for either myself or my wife to use to get to work, healthcare or treatment for my daughter, or healthcare for either myself or the rest of my family.

Does anyone have any suggestions of where to look for solutions?

I know my position is not hopeless. I have the moral support of many friends, and family and I believe that God will reveal His plan in His time. Meanwhile, we cling to Romans 8:28.

One way or another, we will keep going and, we appreciate your prayers.
