A five-hour standoff between Douglas County deputies and a 24-year-old man ended early Tuesday after the man was subdued by Taser and taken into custody.
Undersheriff Paul Howell said deputies were dispatched at 7:30 p.m. to a residence on Downs Drive where the man had barricaded himself in an apartment above the garage and threatened to kill himself.
Howell said the man was alone in the apartment and, although he said he had a weapon, was unarmed.
A crisis negotiator talked with the man for nearly five hours before the subject exposed himself enough to be subdued and taken into custody.
Howell said he was evaluated by the department's psychologist and placed in a mental health facility.
Howell said the young man was despondent over losing his job.
