Nevada Republican candidates spoke at Valhalla hall, which was taxed to its utmost capacity to accommodate the big crowd that turned to hear these speakers. When Sam Platt, George Springmeyer, Wm. McMillan and J.F. Abel stepped on the platform they were greeted with thundering applause. Judge D.W. Milton Dressler was one of a hunting party that spent several days in the Blue Lakes country after deer. Leaving camp he had traveled but a short distance when he detected a fine buck feeding on the mountain side. He fired and the big stag fell. Young Dressler hurried to his prize, set his rifle down against a tree and approaching the deer reached into his pocket for his hunting knife to bleed the animal. When within a few feet of the buck, the animal jumped to his feet and suddenly disappeared into the brush leaving the young hunter standing, knife in hand with no deer to bleed. From the fact that he left his rifle some distance away he was unable to take a second crack at the deer.
