Horses up for adoption

Fifteen saddle-trained horses from the ranges of Nevada are available through an adoption event Saturday at the Northern Nevada Correctional Center off Snyder Avenue in Carson City.

The event is hosted by the Bureau of Land Management, the Nevada Department of Agriculture & the Nevada Department of Corrections. Public access to the corrals opens at 9 a.m. Competitive bid adoption conducted by an auctioneer at 10 a.m. Beginning bids on all horses is $150.

The horses are 3-5 years old in various weights and colors, and have 120 days of saddle training by inmates in the Nevada Department of Corrections program.

Enter the Northern Nevada Correctional Center off Snyder Avenue on the south side of Carson City. From Highway 395, take Snyder Avenue east for 1.5 miles to the entrance to the Northern Nevada Correctional Center.

Northern Nevada Correctional Center rules prohibit the public from wearing any blue clothing, blue jeans, tank tops or shorts. No cell phones, cameras or recording devices.
