The ruling reported earlier this week that a Damonte Ranch volleyball player was ineligible will not have as drastic an impact as originally thought.
A Reno television news station reported Wednesday night that Damonte would forfeit its first 26 matches of the season due to using a player who had transferred from Hawaii prior to the school year and had been granted a temporary guardianship while living with a relative in the area.
The Reno Gazette-Journal reported Thursday that the ineligibility was due to an issue with the paperwork and that the player in question had not actually played in a match since Sept. 10.
As a result, Damonte will reportedly only forfeit its first 18 matches, only one of which was in Sierra League play -- a 3-0 win at Galena on Sept. 10.
The ineligible player will be eligible to play again on Oct. 15, according to the RGJ.
