HONOLULU, Hawaii - The University of Nevada (5-12, 1-3 WAC) volleyball team lost its third Western Athletic Conference match in a row falling in three sets at #4 Hawai`i (14-2, 5-0 WAC) by scores of 12-25, 17-25 and 16-25 in the Stan Sheriff Center in Honolulu, Hawaii tonight. The loss leaves the Wolf Pack 5-12 on the season and 1-3 in WAC play while the conference leading Rainbow Wahine improved to 5-0 in WAC action and 14-2 overall.
In set one UH scored the first three points and never trailed in winning the first set 25-12 to go in front 1-0 in the match. Nevada hit negative .111 in the first set and Hawai`i posted a .348 attack percentage.
Just as in set one the Rainbow Wahine jumped out to an early lead and the Pack were unable to recover falling 25-17 as Hawai`i led the match 2-0 heading into the break. Both teams improved their attack percentage in set two as Nevada hit .226 and UH .424.
Nevada led set three early only to have UH tie the score at 9-9. The Rainbow Wahine then put together a 6-2 run to move in front 15-11 on the way to the 25-16 victory and 3-0 match win. Nevada hit .125 in the final set of the match and UH .357.
Junior Kylie Harrington led the Pack with nine kills in the match. Setters Sonnie Sei and Tatiana Santiago dished out 10 assists each. Junior libero Nicole Link totaled a match-high 11 digs on the night.
Amber Kaufman and Kanani Danielson led UH with 15 and 12 kills respectively. Danielson and Stephanie Brandt finished with eight digs apiece. Setter Dani Mafua had a match-high 41 assists in the win.
UH hit .381 in the match compared to .089 for the Wolf Pack.
Nevada returns home to host Utah State (10-7, 2-3 WAC) on Saturday evening at 7:00 p.m. The Aggies lost 3-1 at Fresno State tonight. Pack fans will be admitted free to the volleyball match with a ticket stub from Friday's Louisiana Tech at Nevada football game.
