The R-C Morning Report

The National Weather Service is betting the farm that it's going to rain, and rain hard. I don't think I've ever seen them crank the potential up to 90 percent 24 hours ahead of time, much less 100 percent for Tuesday night. It starts tonight with a 20 percent chance after 11 p.m. Forecasters are calling for a 90 percent chance during the day Tuesday with up to 3/4s of an inch. By Tuesday night, the forecast is calling for heavy rain through to morning. The weather graph shows more than an inch and a half by storm's end.

Happy Columbus Day. It's a postal holiday, so don't expect the mail to run or to be able to contact anyone in the federal government. In Nevada we traded Columbus Day for Nevada Day, which is being observed this year on Oct. 30, the last Friday of the month. The big parade in Carson coincides with Halloween this year, which is Nevada's actual admission day.

Speaking of Halloween, Trick or Treat Safety Street will be in the CVIC Hall this year after being moved to the Minden Fire Station last year to accommodate voting. That's my clue that we're not moving trick or treating in Douglas for Nevada Day.
