EDITOR:
The second anniversary celebration at Austin's House on Sept. 12 was a huge success. There was a steady flow of guests for the entire fun-filled day. Visitors toured the beautiful facility, got a chance to meet the friendly staff and learn more about what happens at Austin's House. Children enjoyed the fantastic playground, games and refreshments. Casey the Crocodile was a popular choice for pictures. Everyone really had a great time.
There were a number of nice donations made during the open house but perhaps the most unexpected came from members of The Chain Gang, www.F650.com. This group of motorcycle riders who own the chain-driven BMW F650 donated $740 in cash from their own pockets. Once again, Austin's House was truly overwhelmed by the generosity of our community.
Austin's House is a group foster home in Douglas County that was opened in September 2007. It was built entirely with donations from our giving community. Austin's House provides services and care for up to 10 children from infants to age 18. The children are placed at Austin's House after being removed from their homes due to abuse or neglect. Austin's House provides the basic living necessities including proper nutrition, hygiene, rest, nurturing, recreation, companionship, life skills training and education.
