Although war and politics are the general topics of conversation these days, a little diversion from lines has been given by the LaGrave-Green boxing bout to be staged in Minden under the auspices of the Carson Valley Improvement Club.
LaGrave's statement: "Say this much for me - I expect to win before the ten rounds are over. I realize I am up against a husky young man and must be careful, but I depend upon my ring generalship and greater experience to bring me victory."
Green's statement: "Sure, I expect to win. I have youth, strength and condition in my favor and by defeating LaGrave I will be entitled to a match with the best welterweights in the west. I am in better shape than I have ever been in my life and I am not underestimating M. LaGrave, but don't believe he will last the ten rounds."

Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Hussman, in company with a party of friends from Reno and Carson, left last week on a tour of inspection of Boulder Canyon near Las Vegas. While in that section they took a motor boat trip down the Colorado river and were later guests of Death Valley Scotty at his palatial home in the Funeral range. The Douglas High School marching band would have captured first place in woodwinds, second place in brass, first place for drum major, first place in flag team, the marching, showmanship and music sweepstakes and the grand sweepstakes, plus being first in their division. But they couldn't - they were the host school at the Best of the West field show competition last weekend at the Tiger football field. Instead, Hug High from Reno officially took those sweepstakes. DHS was given a private scoring sheet to show how the band would have measured up.
