EDITOR:
Aug. 29 we competed in the demolition derby at the Nevada State Fair. It took many weeks of preparation and hard work to get the cars ready to go. Along with our own hard work we had a group of friends and acquaintances who contributed time, materials, donations and encouragement to help us along.
First we'd like to thank Steve Coyne, owner of Coyne Roofing Inc. (and Jim's dad) for sponsoring us and for the use of his shop for building the cars. Thank you to Doug Johnson for donating his old car which ended up our No. 55 derby car that Jeremy drove. Jim drove No. 42 which was donated to Jim by Jeremy. We'd like to thank Terry Rumph at Trademark Welding, Rob McGuire for paint and Brenda Cantwell for the gas can that was used in one of the cars. Joel Kruger, Levi Shoda and Steve and Dara Webb donated their time and trailers to haul the cars to and from the fair. Finally, thanks to our wives for all the time taken away from them and the family while we prepared for the race.
It was a great experience racing in the derby but the involvement of friends and community members to make it happen was even better. We may not have come in No. 1 in the race, but we represented a community that is No. 1. Thanks again.
