A pet microchip and low-cost vaccination clinic sponsored by Douglas Animal Welfare Group is 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 24 at Max's Pet Supplies, 1363 Highway 395, Unit 4, next to Raley's in Gardnerville.

Microchip implants will be performed by Dr. Linda Miner for $30 each, which includes registration.

Vaccinations will be administered by Dr. Lesli Hewit of Quail Ridge Veterinary Hospital.

Dogs must be on leash and cats should be in carriers.

Implanting a microchip, the size of a grain of rice, is virtually painless. It is placed beneath the skin in the neck area.

Any lost pet taken to an animal shelter and many veterinarians can be reunited with their owners if a microchip is detected. A magnetic wand is waved over the pet, and if a microchip is present it records a registration number used to locate the owner.
